Person killed when run over by tractor trailer and then an SUV, SC cops say

One person was killed early Wednesday morning when run over by a tractor trailer and then an SUV, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The deadly collisions happened at about 3:35 a.m. on a section of Interstate 95 running through Darlington County, said Lance Cpl. William Bennett.

Both a 2000 Kenworth tractor trailer and a 2003 Toyota SUV were driving south on I-95, according to Bennett. Near the 168 mile marker, both vehicles hit a pedestrian, Bennett said.

The Darlington County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the pedestrian.

In addition to the two drivers, there was a passenger in the tractor trailer, and none of those people were hurt, according to Bennett. No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if any of the occupants of the tractor trailer and SUV were wearing seat belts.

Information about what led to both vehicles hitting the pedestrian was not available, but the crashes continue to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
