Person killed at Walmart Supercenter when car crashes into the doors, Georgia cops say

A person was killed at a Walmart Supercenter when a driver rammed through the doors, according to Georgia officials.

The driver was driving “recklessly and at a high rate of speed” in the parking lot when he crashed through the doors of the Thomasville store just after 11:45 a.m. on March 15, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The front end of the driver’s vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Camry, struck “multiple victims,” the release says.

Kenneth Kennedy of Monticello, Florida, died of his injuries on scene, the release says. One other bystander was injured. The department of public safety did not specify the severity of the person’s injuries. The department also did not release Kennedy’s age.

A spokesperson for Walmart said in a statement to McClatchy News that the company is working with law enforcement on its investigation.

“We’re heartbroken to learn what has happened, and our sympathies go out to everyone affected,” the statement says. “We’ll continue working closely with local law enforcement as they investigate this incident.”

The driver, Khalil Amarion Pugh, tried to flee the scene, but bystanders stopped him, according to the public safety department.

Pugh was taken to a hospital, the release says. He faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license, according to the department of public safety.

An obituary for Kennedy could not be found online.

Thomasville is about 225 miles south of Atlanta.
