Man who died in Louisville Metro Corrections custody on Nov. 29 identified

The man who died on Nov. 29 in Louisville Metro Corrections custody was identified as Kenneth Hall, 59.

His cause of death is pending, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office said.

A corrections officer and "medical staff" found the man "unresponsive" in a housing unit about 4:20 p.m., Metro Corrections Assistant Director Steve Durham said in a statement last week. Jail staff "started lifesaving efforts" and emergency medical services responded and took the person to a hospital, according to the statement.

Hall died there later that evening, deputy coroner Jacqueline Smith said.

Hall had been in custody since Nov. 9 on a charge of failure to comply with sex offender registration, Metro Corrections' statement said.

He is one of three people to die in jail custody since late November.

The ACLU of Kentucky called the string of incidents a "crisis" at a Monday press conference and called for action by city officials.

“Our question for Mayor Fischer, corrections officials, Louisville Metro Council and actors in Louisville’s criminal legal system is, what will you do today to address this crisis?” Amber Duke, the ACLU of Kentucky’s deputy director, said.
