MIDTOWN EAST, Manhattan (PIX11) – A person was stabbed on a Manhattan subway early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.

The 34-year-old man was stabbed in the back just before 5 a.m. at the Lexington Avenue-53rd Street station, police said. He was stabbed on a southbound E train, police said. Sources told PIX11 the suspected stabber was known to the victim.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital while three male suspects fled on a Queens-bound train, police said.

Subway safety has become a key concern for state and city officials, but Mayor Eric Adams said subway crime remains low despite some flashy incidents. With about 4 million daily riders, there are an average of 6 felonies per day, Adams said.
