Person struck and killed by NJ Transit train in Ramsey

Police are investigating after a person was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train in Ramsey on Wednesday morning.

Main Line Train 1109 hit the victim at about 9:40 a.m., said NJ Transit senior public information officer Kyalo Mulumba. The train left Hoboken at 8:35 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Suffern, New York, at 9:49 a.m.

Mulumba did not release the person's name or other identifying information.

There were no injuries to the 20 customers and crew members on board, Mulumba said. Train service was stopped on the Main and Bergen County lines in both directions but had resumed as of 11 a.m.

NJ Transit police were at the scene leading the investigation.
