Persona 3 Reload won't include the female protagonist or content from FES, Atlus has confirmed.

The long-awaited remake to the popular RPG game generated much excitement among fans, firstly following an accidental trailer leak and then when it was officially unveiled at the Xbox Showcase a few days later.

But for many, their excitement has been tempered by confirmation that the remake will be largely based on the original release on the PS2, and not feature parts introduced in Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable.

In particular, P3P's female protagonist (including social links specific to the character) and FES's 'The Answer' epilogue will be missing when the game launches early next year.

"So first I'd like to mention that since the basic concept of the Persona 3 remake was to remake the Persona 3, we don't have the FES and Portable contents included," producer Ryota Niitsuma told IGN.

"We wanted to really genuinely work on recreating the Persona 3 experience."

Niitsuma added: "We can't really go into the details at this point yet, but we have remade basically everything from scratch as for Persona 3 the original version.

"So we have newly recorded voices, we have new scenes and events. We also have both new and arranged music. We'll be kind of releasing that information, following everything. So please look forward to that."

Meanwhile, chief director Kazuhisa Wada said: "The basic concept of recreating the Persona story was that we wanted to keep everything from the original version, but update everything to the modern day. So at the same level of Persona 5, basically."

The voice cast includes Aleks Le, Heather Gonzalez, Allegra Clark, Alejandro Saab, Zeno Robinson, Dawn Bennett, Suzie Yeung, Justice Slocum and Justine Lee.

While the remake has already been confirmed for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass (on day one), it is also expected to launch on PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch.
