Perth Amboy man charged in hit-and-run death of elderly pedestrian using walker

PERTH AMBOY – A 30-year-old city man was charged in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night that left a 72-year-old man dead.

Hansel Farrier-Romero was arrested Monday and charged with one count of second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Lawrence Cattano announced.

Police responded around 8:29 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Convery and Pfeiffer boulevards on a report that a white Dodge Charger fled the scene after striking an elderly man who was using a walker and crossing the roadway, authorities said.

Arriving officers located Rocco Chirichillo, of Perth Amboy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

An investigation identified Farrier-Romero as the driver of the white Dodge Charger involved in the crash, authorities said.
