Perusing pumpkin patch possibilities? Here are some Augusta area spots
Whether it's for carving into spooky creatures, baking into delicious treats, or just to decorate the house, Augusta area residents will be in need of some pumpkins this year. Here are some of the area's local patches:
Greenbrier Nursery & Gifts
4749 Washington Rd., Evans
Greenbrier offers a unique selection of pumpkin heirlooms, from Pokémons to Mini Whites. The nursery's owner Hannah Barnes said this year's most popular variation is the Fairy Tale, which she described as having a dusty orange color.
For those in need of another fall veggie, she is also selling corn stalks. Both the pumpkins and the corn are selling at $10 and under. There is also a photo-op display.
The nursery is open every day except Wednesday. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to greenbriernursery.com.
Marvin United Methodist Church
4400 Wheeler Rd., Martinez
Marvin United will be bringing in an 18-wheeler full of pumpkins for their patch, which they plan to open Saturday, Oct. 15.
The church's David Skelton said they will be selling the pumpkins by size, with a range of $5 to $25. Additionally, members of the church will be selling hand-made scarecrows, cloth pumpkins and similar crafts.
Proceeds from the sales will help the church's mission work.
The patch will be open every day through Halloween 1-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 1-7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to marvinchurch.com.
Woodlawn Baptist Church
4943 Columbia Rd., Grovetown
Woodlawn's patch started on Monday with more than 1,500 pumpkins available for purchase.
The church's administrative assistant Sue Watkins said their prices are dependent on size, with a range of $7 to $40. The proceeds will go to their mission work. Crafts will also be sold, plus photo-ops and story time for families.
The patch will be open every day except Sunday, noon to 7 p.m. on the weekdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, go to woodlawnbc.net.
Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church
471 West Martintown Rd., North Augusta
St. Bartholomew is bringing in 4,000 pumpkins for sale at their patch, which is opening Oct. 16.
The church's administrative assistant Janice Furman said the church will be open noon to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. There are also opportunities to reserve a story time and visit to the patch for pre-K through 2nd grade classes.
The proceeds will be broken up, with some going towards the church's work in Ecuador and some going to local nonprofit organizations like Walking Tall and Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Hephzibah Baptist Church

Hephzibah Baptist's patch opened on Oct. 7, and will remain open every day from noon to 6 p.m. through Halloween.
More than1,000 pumpkins are available, with prices depending on size, but starting at $2 and going up to approximately $18, according to Lora Stouder, the church's minister to children and families.
The proceeds will go to their effort to give their youth a camping trip over the summer. For more information, go to hephzibahbaptist.org.
Steed's Dairy
4634 Wrightsboro Rd., Grovetown
The Maize at Steed's Dairy is back, with all of the fall fun families love, including a pumpkin patch where families can pick a pumpkin right off the vine, purchase and bring home with them.
Other attractions include a 5-acre corn maze, a pony cart ride, a petting zoo, a giant tube slide and more.
The dairy is open now through Nov. 13 every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and every Sunday 1-7 p.m. For more information, including admission prices, go to steedsdairy.com.
Wesley United Methodist Church
825 N. Belair Rd., Evans
Wesley United's pumpkin patch returns Thursday and goes through Oct. 30. It will be open 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Aaron Talbot, the church's pastor of student ministries, said via email that there will be up to 2,000 pumpkins ranging from $5 to $15 depending on the size.
Proceeds from the sales will go to Wesley Students' ministries and the Wesley Preschool. For more information, go to wesleyumc.net.
Cold Creek Nurseries
398 Hitchcock Pkwy., Aiken
Cold Creek and its manager Cathy Bland are proud to be selling more than 800 pumpkins from a farmer in Chester, S.C., at their patch.
They also take pride in the fact that they have about 20 different heirlooms of pumpkins, with various shapes and sizes. The nursery is also selling corn stalks and other fall veggies. Prices range between $2 and $20.

Maggie Jayne's Snoballs & Italian Ice
1963 Appling-Harlem Rd., Appling
Guests at Maggie Jayne's can go home with an icy treat and a pumpkin.
Hundreds of pumpkins, gourds, and mini pumpkins for carving or eating are available outside the shop. Prices depend on size, but the carving pumpkins range from $8.75 to $13.75.
There is also a photo-op and corn stalks available for purchase
Maggie Jayne's is open 2:30-8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 1:30-8 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to maggiejaynes.com.
