It’s hard to believe January already has come to a close, but that also means the deadline for expiring pesticide and fertilizer licenses is only eight weeks away.

Some of you may have attended the Ag-Pro Expo last week in Millersburg to earn your credits, but for those who were not able to make it, or needed more categories than was offered there, please call the OSU Extension Wayne County Office to register for one of the following upcoming sessions.

There are no class limits unless otherwise stated and pre-registration is required.

  • Tuesdays, March 1 and 8, Buckeye Agricultural Museum, 877 W. Old Lincolnway, Wooster. Pesticide license categories 1-6 and core will be offered 9 a.m.-noon. Fertilizer (category 15) will be offered 1-2 p.m. There is a class limit of 45.

  • Tuesday, March 22, The School Building, 99 W. Buckeye St., West Salem). Pesticide license categories 1-6 and core will be offered 9 a.m.-noon. Fertilizer (category 15) will be offered 1-2 p.m.

  • Thursday, March 24, Fisher Auditorium, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster. Pesticide license categories 1-6 and core will be offered from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Fertilizer (category 15) will be offered from 8-9 p.m.

  • Tuesday, March 29, Kidron Community Building, 4434 Kidron Road, Kidron. This is a double-header session. The first pesticide session will be held 12:30-3:30 p.m. and categories 1-6 and core will be offered. Fertilizer (category 15) will be held 4-5 p.m. A second pesticide session offering categories 1-6 and core will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for those unable to make the early session.

There is a $35 fee associated with pesticide sessions and a $15 fee for fertilizer sessions. The fees are collected at the door and are separate from the $30 owed to the Ohio Department of Agriculture for applicator license renewal. Cash or check is accepted. Make checks payable to OSU Extension.

If you do not hold a private applicator fertilizer license, there will be a session in late March for first-time certification. More details are forthcoming. If you do not hold a private applicator pesticide license, you must register for an exam with the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

There are several exams scheduled in Wayne County with open seats:

Wednesday, 9 a.m.; April 5, 9 a.m.; May 3, 9 a.m.; June 7, 9 a.m.

Please visit https://agri.ohio.gov/divisions/plant-health/pesticides/exam-registration to register for first-time pesticide examination.
