Pet Alliance needs dog, cat food donations to keep pace with pandemic demand

Humans aren’t the only ones facing food insecurity these days. So are their pets.

Since the coronavirus pandemic hit Central Florida in March, the nonprofit Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has distributed more than 30,000 pounds of food to local dog and cat owners who are struggling financially. At the same time, the charity’s own fund-raising events have been canceled, postponed or turned into virtual events because of the virus.

Now, the organization is asking for the community’s help to meet the growing needs of its pet food bank. In addition to the food it distributes to owners, It costs about $500 a day to feed all the dogs and cats in its two shelters.

You can find a list of needed foods as well as grooming and cleaning supplies, treats and toys on the Pet Alliance wish list or its shopping list on Amazon.com. You can ship items directly to the charity’s shelters in Orlando or Sanford or drop them off yourself during normal business hours.

No time to shop? You also can make a monetary donation online at petallianceorlando.org/ways-give/donate/.
