Petaluma installs new driver safety measures in wake of deadly crash

(KRON) — In the wake of a fatal crash last week in Petaluma, the city announced its intentions to make the subject intersection safer.

The crash happened on Feb. 1 at the intersection of Lakeville Highway and Pine View Way. The victim, a 79-year-old woman, was turning left onto Lakeville Highway when she was hit.

The city will put interim safety measure in place starting the week of Feb. 12 and remain in place until a more permanent solution is found. The measures include:

  • Radar speed feedback signs along Lakeville Highway

  • New traffic lane configurations designed to slow traffic speeds

  • Blocking access to Lakeville Highway from Pine View Way and the southernmost, non-signalized South McDowell intersection so that vehicles cannot turn onto Lakeville Highway. (Vehicles traveling toward or away from town on Lakeville will still be able to turn onto Pine View and South McDowell.)

The city assures that all driveway will be accessible during the installation of the new measures.
