‘Petco Love’ invests $25k in CCSPCA’s new dog training program

FRESNO, Calif. (KGPE/KSEE) – A $25,000 grant was given from the national nonprofit Petco Love to the Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Fresno County Humane Society (Central California SPCA) to support their work for animals in Central California, officials announced on Wednesday.

Officials say Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Petco Love was founded in 1999 and has invested $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts.

The Central Valley plays a big part in this organization as officials say it continues to thrive.

“In one calendar year, we saw 126 dog adoptions returned within seven days due to unrealistic expectations of what it took to care for a dog and behavioral issues that could have been corrected with a little dog training,” said Linda Van Kirk, Central California SPCA Executive Director. “Our new dog training program and online resource guide were developed with the intent to keep animals in loving homes and help curb the rampant animal shelter overcrowding issue we are seeing throughout the Central Valley.”

Petco Love officials say they will continue to find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than $4,000 organizations including in North America with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.
