The year is 2020 and you know what that means. Politics! Yay! And while the race has already been full of some pretty controversial talking points, leave it to the internet to still be scandaled by the silliest of things. This week's? An old video has resurfaced of Mayor Pete Buttigieg discussing mixing salsa and ranch dressing together.

Twitter user Samuel D. Finkelstein II posted a video this week of Pete saying that he would eat salsa and ranch mixed together if someone gave it to him.

"Where I come from, we’re not purists about these things," he says in the video: "Obviously, salsa is salsa, and ranch is ranch. But if someone’s gonna mix them up, I’m not above dipping a tortilla chip in and enjoying the mix of flavors.”

You might be wondering how the hell Pete got here and why anyone on Earth would ask him this question. Well, it turns out there is a very logical explanation for all of this. According Eater, there's a South Bend, IN, Tex-Mex chain called Hacienda which is known for its ranch dressing and salsa, which people often mix together. In fact, they once even had GROWLERS you could fill with ranch, people love it so much. Mayor Pete is the mayor of South Bend, so duh, it makes sense people would ask this. Sure.

This incident wasn't the only time it's been brought up though. He also addressed it in Detroit, telling a crowd that he will eat it “under certain circumstances,” but is generally a “purist,” which seems like KIND OF THE OPPOSITE of what he said in the video. Very interesting.

Needless to say people are just not very into the idea, no matter the explanation.

Look, as someone who grew up in the heart of ranch-dressing-on-everything country, I am not above a spicy ranch, but there are much better ways to go about it, in my opinion. That being said, would I try this if given the chance? Sure! Life is short.

Pete has also made headlines in the past for the way he eats a cinnamon roll, so it's probably safe to say this isn't the last time he'll be written about for his food opinions, which obviously make or break an election. KIDDING! Please stay informed about stuff that actually matters, too!! I beg you!
