GREEN BAY - Peter Frank has been named editor of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Frank, who currently oversees coverage of breaking and trending news in Green Bay and at other sites in the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, will lead local news coverage at the Press-Gazette and serve as the primary contact for readers and Green Bay-area community leaders.

Frank has held a variety of positions during his 23-year career at the Press-Gazette. He joined the newsroom in 1999 as news editor before going on to serve as metro editor, community news editor, opinion editor, business editor, engagement editor and the Press-Gazette's living and storytelling team editor.

The variety of roles is what made Frank the right person to lead the Press-Gazette, said Greg Borowski, who oversees local news coverage for the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, which also includes the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Appleton Post-Crescent, Sheboygan Press and Oshkosh Northwestern.

"Peter has deep ties to the Green Bay community and a deep commitment to local journalism -- journalism that serves our readers, holds public officials accountable and shines a light on what is working," said Borowski, who is also deputy editor for news, projects and investigations at the Journal Sentinel.

"Based on his track record, there is no better choice for this position."

Frank will also lead a regional government coverage team focused on government, public safety and courts news in Green Bay, Appleton and across the region. He will work closely with leaders in other USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin markets including Milwaukee, Wausau and Sheboygan.

Much of Frank's 33-year journalism career has been spent covering Wisconsin communities.

He was a reporter at the Monroe Evening Times from 1989-1990, reporter and news editor for the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune from 1990 to 1994 before becoming a news editor at the Wausau Daily Herald in 1994 and 1995. He spent more than three years in Poland, working as a freelancer and for the Warsaw Business Journal, before joining the Press-Gazette in 1999.

In his time in Green Bay, Frank has won two Best of Gannett awards. He also won two first-place Wisconsin Newspaper Association awards, including one for editorial section coverage in 2017.

He also is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from May 1982 to May 1985, when he received an honorable discharge. He and his wife have four children and live in the Green Bay area.
