YORK — Peter Joseph has been named the next town manager of York.

The Selectboard is scheduled to approve Joseph's three-year contract at its Feb. 27 meeting. Joseph resides in Freeport, Maine, and has served as Freeport's town manager for the last 10 years. Prior to that, Joseph was the town manager for Lincoln, New Hampshire.

Joseph will replace former town manager Steve Burns, who announced his retirement last spring and vacated the position on Aug. 1.

The town conducted a nationwide search with the assistance of consultant Don Gerrish, of Eaton Peabody Consulting Group. The initial search resulted in no perfect candidate for York and as a result, the board reopened it in December. Assistant Town Manager Kathryn Lagasse has been serving as interim town manager since August.

Joseph has been working in municipal government for 17 years, with 14 of those years managing destination communities. Joseph has a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Hampshire and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Joseph will start work on Monday, April 10, 2023.
