Peter Pan Bus Lines will begin New Bedford-Boston service April 18; adds Fall River stop

NEW BEDFORD — Peter Pan Bus Lines will roll into the breach left by DATTCO's decision to stop bus service from New Bedford to Boston, and will begin round trip commuter service Tuesday, April 18.

DATTCO announced it was stopping service on April 16, citing declining ridership and financial losses.

Frank Dougherty, Peter Pan Bus Lines chief operating officer, stated, "Peter Pan Bus Lines will offer round trip commuter service from Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton commencing on Tuesday, April 18th. We are guardedly optimistic that adding a stop in Fall River prior to departing New Bedford and operating service to Logan Airport may assist in adding revenue to a commuter service that cannot currently support itself."

He said Peter Pan will commit to running one morning departure and one afternoon departure, Monday through Friday.

Service will be to Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton

Service will be provided to Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton utilizing the current pick up and drop off.

He said Peter Pan’s service will not stop or depart from Copley Plaza but will service South Station and continue on to Logan airport offering a new bus service to the residents of New Bedford, Fall River and Taunton.

Peter Pan cannot honor tickets purchased in advance from the previous vendor but will initially honor the current vendor’s fare structure. However, fares may be subject to change in the future.

Peter Pan Bus Lines will develop separate pricing for the new Logan service that will be in line with pricing from locations currently served by Peter Pan.

Ticketing will be predominantly via the web (peterpanbus.com) or on the Peter Pan Bus mobile app.

However, tickets and commuter passes will also be available at Peter Pan's Boston South Station ticket counter.Passengers can contact Customer Care at 800-343-999 for travel questions and assistance.

State Sen. Mark Montigny, D-New Bedford, said he was pleased that bus service will continue following advocacy efforts from the Southcoast legislative delegation, MassDOT and MassDOT Secretary Gina Fiandaca.
