Peterborough bicyclist dies in collision with motorcycle on Route 202 in Hancock

Jul. 10—HANCOCK — A Peterborough bicyclist died of injuries sustained in a collision with a motorcyclist on Route 202 on Sunday morning, according to Hancock Police Chief Thomas Horne.

Emergency personnel who responded to the intersection of Elmwood and Route 202, also known as Concord Road, around 10:20 a.m. attempted life-saving measures but eventually pronounced John Wojtas, 65, dead at the scene, Horne said. Route 202 was closed until about 4 p.m.

"There's a lot of information we have to go through but preliminarily it looks like the bicyclist encroached on the southbound lane of traffic and was struck by the motorcyclist," Horne said.

The motorcyclist, Seamus Wibben, 26, of Newport, was transported to Concord Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police chief.

Multiple fire and police departments responded and the State Police collision reconstruction team was called to assist with the investigation, which is still ongoing, Horne said.
