Petersburg holiday tree lighting, bazaar: New parade route. You in?

PETERSBURG — The City of Petersburg's holiday parade with the theme "Home for the Holidays" has a new route this year. The Grand Marshall is football great Petersburg native Quinton Spain, former Cincinnati Bengals NFL player who played in the Super Bowl LVI in February this year.

Grab a family member, friend or coworker to watch the parade together. Enjoy marching bands, floats, vintage cars, horses, cycles and Santa.

It takes place, rain or shine, on Saturday, December 3 from 3-4:30 p.m. It begins at the former hospital site on Sycamore Street and continues on Sycamore to Old Towne Petersburg.

Petersburg Holiday Parade traffic alert:

  • East and westbound traffic will be delayed on Wythe and Washington Streets at the intersections with Sycamore Street between 3 - 5 p.m.

  • To secure the parade route the following major intersections will also be closed from 3-5 p.m.:

  • Sycamore Street at Graham Road

  • Sycamore Street at Wythe Street

  • Sycamore at Washington Street

  • Multiple side streets will be closed on Sycamore Street from Mount Vernon Street to Old Street

"No parking" restrictions will be in place on Sycamore Street from Graham Road to Old Street during the period of 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The City asks parade goers to consider alternate travel routes during this period.

Bus service disruptions will take place during the parade. The Petersburg Area Transit [PAT] provided the following service changes:

Petersburg Holiday Tree Lighting and Bazaar

The City of Petersburg VA - Office of Recreation and Special Events will also host a Holiday Tree Lighting and Bazaar at Union Train Station on Friday, December 2 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Attendees will witness the illumination of the holiday tree and enjoy great food and music. There will be holiday items to purchase for the entire family.

Entertainment and vendors include The Company band, Soul Unlimited Band and Show, Earnestine's Table, D & M Jamaican Kitchen, Peoples Advantage Credit Union, So Amazing Publications, Sprouse Concessions, Trapezium Brewing Company and 767 Media Works.
