Petersburg woman arrested for allegedly shooting another woman in Halifax Street apartment lot

PETERSBURG — Police have arrested a woman in connection with a shooting Sunday night at an apartment complex on Halifax Street that sent another woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Nia Duval, 20, has been charged with aggravated assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. She is being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County pending a court appearance.

She was detained at the scene, according to the police report.

Deputy Police Chief Emanuel Chambliss said the victim, an unidentified woman whose age was not disclosed, had been taken to a hospital prior to officers arriving at the Hill Terrace Apartments. She later was airlifted to a Richmond hospital with life-threatening injuries. At last report, Chambliss said, the victim was in stable but critical condition at the hospital.

No motive was disclosed for the shooting, which happened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday in the complex's parking lot.

It was the second shooting reported within 48 hours at a Petersburg apartment complex. Friday night, a woman was shot to death in an apparent domestic incident at the ArtistSpace Lofts apartments on Perry Street. A man was arrested in connection with that murder.
