LEET TWP. — There will be a recount/recanvas of votes from the Nov. 2 general election for the race for commissioner in the township.

According to a court order filed by Allegheny County Senior Judge Joseph M. James, the recount for both township voting districts will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Allegheny County Elections Division warehouse at 901 Pennsylvanian Ave. in Pittsburgh.

The Elections Division will conduct the recount/recanvas and will be supervised by the Allegheny County Law Department.

From there, at 1:30 p.m. the same day, the Elections Division will present its results in court at the City-County Building.

This recount was granted by James after six township voters sent in verified petitions asking for a recount.

During the election, there were four candidates on the ballot vying for two seats.

These candidates were challengers Rody Nash (R), Daniel M. Peluso (D), and Stephanie Turner (R), and incumbent and council President Donna Adipietro (D).

According to the election results on the Allegheny County website, Nash had 284 votes, Peluso had 276 votes, Adipietro had 272 votes, Turner had 139 votes, and there were 77 non write-in votes.

Each petition filed states a recount should be done since there was a difference of four votes between the second- and third-place candidates, and a difference of 12 votes between the top three candidates.

Each petition states there is the belief that error, although not apparent, intentional, or manifest, was possible in the computation of the votes cast, or in the marking of the ballots.

All four candidates will be notified. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, each candidate or a single representative of each candidate may appear to view the recount/recanvas. Therefore, each candidate is permitted a single representative.
