Petoskey golf hosts annual invite, place ninth; Boyne City takes sixth

PETOSKEY — Monday came as the first and only time of the year for the Petoskey boys’ golf team to host at Petoskey-Bay View Country Club.

So, right on cue came a rainy, chilly morning in Petoskey.

What seems to be an annual tradition with the Northmen hosting, teams battled through a rainy, cool spring day to get the match going, with host Petoskey placing ninth overall with a 362.

A total of 11 varsity programs, along with junior varsity teams, took place in the event, which was led by Traverse City Central with a 316.

Traverse City West then placed second with a 323, followed by Alpena, 341; Cadillac, 344; Elk Rapids, 347; Boyne City, 350; Ogemaw Heights, 352; Petoskey, 362; Gaylord, 371; and Cheboygan, 386.

A total of nine golfers shot sub 80 on the day, led by Tyler Frechette of Traverse City West with a 75. Kole Putnam of Gaylord then led a group of golfers that shot 77, which also included Harry Chipman of Cadillac, Shea Harmeson of Traverse City Central and West’s Winslow Robinson.

Three then followed with 78, including Boyne City’s Kolton Stadt, Central’s Cam Peters and Gavin Hamp of Alpena.

Petoskey was led by Collin Caporosso with an 88, while Jackson Jonker finished with a 90 and sophomore Max Faulkner shot a 91.

Parker Streiff then shot 93, Michael Squires finished with a 99 and Garner Halvarson shot 111.

For Boyne City behind Stadt, Nic Santina shot an 82, Ryan Reynolds finished with a 91; Jack Snyder, 99; Jack Neer, 103; and Andrew Stadt, 114.

For the Blue Devils, Putnam was followed by Bryce Harding with a 96, Luke Somerville shot 97; Alex Cook, 101; Gage Caverson, 106; and Aidan Carr, 107.

The Petoskey junior varsity competed with two separate teams on the day, with a number of golfers shooting sub 90 and sub 100.

For the Petoskey JV blue, Andrew Licata finished with an 85, Gavin Galbraith shot 87, Thomas Guiney carded a 98 and Caleb Loe shot 113.

The Petoskey JV white team then had Zach Reid shooting an 88, Rayce Szalkowski shot 99, Emmitt Ratliff finished with a 102 and Nolan Jarvis shot 119.
