PETOSKEY — Local newspapers The Petoskey News Review, The Charlevoix Courier and The Gaylord Herald Times have taken home numerous placements and honorable mentions in the Michigan Press Association's 2022 Better Newspaper Contest.

Winners were announced in a virtual ceremony on Thursday, March 16, with the Petoskey News Review walking away with third place for "Newspaper of the Year" in Daily Class D publications.

The annual competition inspires newspapers and news media across the state to "assess and put forth their team's best work in journalism, photojournalism, column writing, graphic design and advertising," according to Michigan Press Association President Wes Smith.

"It is a rare moment in our profession where we allow ourselves to reflect and experience something akin to satisfaction for a job well done. Anyone in this business today is in it, not for the kudos, but because of a passion and desire to serve our readers ... for us the work is the reward," writes Smith.
