Petoskey schools are asking voters to approve upgrading security. Here's what you need to know
PETOSKEY — The Public Schools of Petoskey is getting the word out about the district's school safety bond proposal that voters will see on the November ballot.
The bond proposal is for an $18.1 million project intended to upgrade the school's safety measures, including securing entrances to schools, improving technical infrastructure and upgrading security cameras.
The proposal would set the millage rate at 0.85, which will not increase the current millage rate residents currently are paying. It's the same millage rate from the Northmen Stadium construction project that was previously approved.
Petoskey Superintendent Jeff Leslie will host informational public forums where people can come with questions regarding the bond proposal. Mike Galovan from TowerPinkster and Josh Szymanski from Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. will be attending the Sept. 25 date as well.
The public forums will be at different times and locations throughout the area. The community forum dates hosted on Sept. 18, Sept. 19, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 are open to the public and anyone can attend. Rotary events are for rotary members, and the PTO and Parent Alliance events are for parents with students in those specific buildings.
