Amid an injury bug that hit the Buffalo Bills offensive line early in training camp, the team signed Jordan Simmons on July 25. His tenure in Buffalo was not long.

After the Bills’ first preseason game against the Indianapolis Cots, Simmons was released.

Buffalo and the rest of the NFL had to get down to 85 players by Wednesday. Simmons was one of the first to go.

But was that… a mistake? Pro Football Focus inadvertently shed some light on that idea.

The football analytics outlet released their recap on the Bills’ 27-24 exhibition win against the Colts. Buried in it was some praise of Simmons.

Against the Colts, Simmons did play a healthy chunk of snaps–55 percent. That could be an indication that the Buffalo coaching staff did not feel too highly of him.

On the other end of the spectrum, the entire projected starting O-line was sat. That group is clearly held in good regard.

Perhaps there’s a chance that the Bills could look back more positively on Simmons in the future and bring him back? Bare minimum, PFF thinks Simmons might have earned another shot somewhere else.

Here’s how PFF broke down Simmons’ effort:

Sixth-year lineman Jordan Simmons was one of the few bright spots of the Bills’ line. He registered a pending 86.8 pass-blocking grade on 26 pass-blocking snaps while staying clean in pass protection.
