PFF: Titans should pursue Rams’ Leonard Floyd in free agency

When free agency begins in March, the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1 priority will be landing an impact player (or players) who can help resurrect a pass rush that finished with 19 sacks in 2020, the third-fewest in the NFL.

Of course, the Titans should certainly try to land one April’s draft, but this is a win-now team that needs an immediate boost, and free agency is the best avenue to get that.

In an article suggesting one player every team in the NFL should target in free agency, Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson pegs Los Angeles Rams EDGE Leonard Floyd to the Titans.

Arguably the biggest issue on Tennessee’s defense has been a complete inability to rush the passer. Harold Landry never developed into the edge rusher we thought he would be coming out of Boston College, and he remains the team’s primary source of pressure.

Leonard Floyd had a career-best 52 total pressures this season. He benefitted from playing alongside Aaron Donald, but he also had 31 defensive stops and has been a consistently solid run defender over his career. Floyd won’t solve the problem all by himself, but the Titans don’t have a ton of cash to spend to achieve that. He will help take steps in that direction.

A former No. 9 overall pick of the Chicago Bears out of Georgia, Floyd is coming off his best year as a pro after totaling career-highs in sacks (10.5), tackles (55) and QB hits (19).

Floyd made $10 million on a one-year deal with the Rams, but chances are he’ll command more this time around after his impressive campaign. The 28-year old should certainly be on general manager Jon Robinson’s radar.
