Pflugerville librarian: Romance Readers' Social back for 15th year

On the second weekend in February each year, the Pflugerville Public Library hosts romance authors for a fun-filled afternoon of book signings, an author panel, crafts and games. None of which is possible without the generosity of the Friends of the Pflugerville Library group. This year marks the 15th annual Romance Readers’ Social, to run from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. Anyone 18 and older is welcome to attend, no registration needed. Join other romance readers in celebrating the genre of HEA (Happily Ever After).

Make a bookmark or two, a TBR jar and watercolor postcards for that special someone. Generate a romance author name and book title for our board. The best combo will win a prize bag. Match your favorite reads to our categories for another opportunity to win. Submit a question for the author panel or step up to the mic to ask the author during our panel. This year hear from authors including:

Kelly Cain is a native Northern Californian but has spent the last couple of decades in Texas, residing in Austin. Consequently, most of her books are set somewhere between those two locations. Kelly writes Black and multicultural romance with determined women directing their own fates, and the swoon-worthy men who adore them. When she isn’t reading or writing, Kelly is most likely using a genealogy site to research her extended family, both old and new, or cooking/baking something delightful. She has two adult daughters, and a granddaughter.

M.L. Eaden works by day in the tech industry, but at night she reads books, writes stories, throws axes and is an avid gamer with a current addiction to Azul. Originally from the sunflower state, she migrated to one with a lone star —and more sun and tries desperately to keep up with two adorable cattle dogs that still act like they are 5 years old instead of the seniors their vet says they are.

Becky Wade is a California native who attended Baylor University, met and married a Texan, and settled in Dallas with their three children and one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She loves writing emotional Christian contemporary romances laced with mystery and humor. Her 11 novels and five novellas have been recognized with a Carol Award, INSPY awards and a spot in the Christy Award Hall of Fame.

Vivien Jackson writes fantastical, futuristic kissing books. Her debut science fiction romance, "Wanted and Wired," was an Amazon Best Book of 2017, a Romance Writers of America RITA Finalist, and an SFR Galaxy Award winner. A devoted fangirl of many fandoms and an inveterate gamer, Viv lives in Texas and watches a lot of football.

In addition to author tables, visit the Inclusive Romance Project table to support the unique voices of all authors and readers. Several of our fabulous group of participating authors are a part of that important work.

For the past two years, this event has been held virtually with take home crafts and a recorded author panel. If you missed them or want to rewatch, visit the library YouTube channel or event page pflugervilletx.gov/romancereaders.

Beyond the amazing authors featured at events like Romance Readers Social, our librarians will happily suggest more titles for you through the Your Next Read or Book Bundle service. Answer a few questions about the types of books you like, and we’ll do the rest.
