Brooks Koepka held off the challenge of Viktor Hovland and the surging Scottie Scheffler to win his third US PGA Championship title and fifth major.

Koepka, who felt he had "choked" when holding the 54-hole lead at the Masters last month, kept his cool to shoot a final-round 66 at Oak Hill Country Club.

Hovland kept the pressure on and reduced Koepka’s lead to one with five holes to play - but the Norwegian’s chances evaporated with a double bogey at the 16th.

Scheffler’s fine 65 saw the American get to within two of Koepka, who held on to win his first major since his last PGA Championship in 2019.

The highlight of the day came from club professional Michael Block, the 46-year-old making a hole-in-one on the 15th as he played the final round alongside Rory McIlroy, who finished in a tie for seventh place.

Follow all the reaction and latest updates from Oak Hill below:

US PGA Championship Day Four updates

  • The 105th US PGA Championship continues at Oak Hill Country Club in New York

  • Koepka wins the US PGA Championship by two shots

  • Leaderboard: -9: Koepka; -7: Scheffler; Hovland.

  • Club pro Michael Block makes hole-in-one at 15th

BROOKS KOEPKA WINS THE US PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

23:34 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (67), Hovland -7 (68)

Hovland makes his birdie to ensure he finishes in a tie for second. That’s well-deserved for the Norwegian who challenged Koepka all the way.

Koepka can’t make his birdie effort but he taps in for par to secure his two-shot victory!

DeChambeau and Conners finish off

23:33 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -3 (70), Conners E (75)

We haven’t seen much of these two in the past hour but Bryson knocks in for a par and finishes at three under for the tournament and tied for fourth.

Conners finishes with a bogey and it’s a disappointing final-round 75 for the 36-hole leader.

Koepka straight up the middle

23:31 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (17), Hovland -6 (17)

Brooks safely negotiates the tee shot before stripping one in close. Finishing in emphatic fashion. Hovland is on the putting surface in two as well.

Koepka makes bogey, takes two-shot lead to the last

23:23 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (17), Hovland -6 (17)

Hovland gets up and down from greenside for his par while Koepka two-putts for his bogey.

He has a two-shot lead going up the last - should be no problem, right? Just don’t think about Mito Pereira, Brooksey.

Birdie at the last for Scheffler

23:21 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -7 (65)

The world number two knocks in a decent effort from mid-range to move himself up to seven under - perhaps a bit of pressure on Koepka?

A final round of 65 should ultimately count for little but it’s a reminder of just how good he is. He will no doubt look back on his poor performance with the putter yesterday as the killer blow this week.

Trouble off the tee

23:18 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -10 (16), Hovland -6 (16)

Koepka fires way right off the tee and has to chip out onto the fairway. It’s a well-judged wedge into the green and he’ll have a putt for par. Hovland’s drive trickles into the rough and his second comes up short and right of the green.

Scheffler up the last

23:13 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (17)

Scheffler’s birdie attempt on the 17th races by and he remains at six under with one to play.

Double bogey for Hovland, Koepka leads by four

23:11 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -10 (16), Hovland -6 (16)

And that surely is that.

Hovland can’t make the 20-foot putt for a bogey and it’s a double-bogey six for the Norwegian. Koepka applies the finishing touches to his perfect iron shot and converts for his birdie.

The four-time major champion now leads by four with two to play. Soon to be a five-time major champion, surely?

Koepka applies pressure

23:07 , Ben Fleming

Hovland takes a drop and elects to just chip it back into the fairway. He fires into the green but he has plenty of work to just make bogey.

Koepka steps up from the fairway and hits a beautiful iron in close. He’ll have a very makeable birdie.

That could well be that...

Marvellous from Block

23:05 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -2 (69), Block +1 (71)

It’s rare that McIlroy is overshadowed in a pairing but it’s happening now courtesy of Michael Block. The club pro flies it way into the crowd on the last hole but produces a miraculous scramble to make a par and finish his round one over par and in a tie for 15th. That feat will earn him an invite back to next year’s tournament.

McIlroy taps in for his par - a ‘what could have been’ round in another ‘what could have been’ tournament for Rory.

Oh, Viktor...

22:58 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

I don’t believe it - the same bunker as Conners yesterday and Hovland produces the exact same shot. It doesn’t get up over the lip and it wedges in between the sand and the lip. He’ll get a free drop but there’s no guarantee he’ll even make bogey from there - Conners made double bogey yesterday, remember.

Penultimate hole for Scheffler

22:56 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (16)

You have to think Scheffler needs at least one birdie from his last two holes and that shot into 17th is hardly his best. A long-range putt coming up for the American.

Hovland in trouble off the tee

22:53 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

Hovland steps up first...and it’s right. How right? Into the bunker is the answer. That is the same one Conners found himself in yesterday.

Koepka is in the rough after his leaks right as well but you’d have to say that advantage lies with the leader after those shots.

Missed chance for Scheffler

22:49 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (16), Rose -2 (16)

The world number two is running out of holes to get up towards Koepka and he has a good look at 16 but it goes by. Two holes remaining for him to find something magical.

A pair of pars for Koepka and Hovland

22:47 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

Koepka steps up first with his effort and it’s a great lag putt up to the hole and he taps in for a birdie. Hovland’s effort, along a similar line, runs out of steam and falls away on the right side. A par for him too.

Three holes remaining.

Final pair aboard the 15th green

22:42 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (14), Hovland -8 (14)

The par-three 15th is next and Hovland goes first. It’s safely aboard on the left side of the green. Koepka goes next and follows his playing partner. You don’t want to be right of this pin and both take the percentage play with their tee shots.

Koepka and Hovland make birdie

22:40 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (14), Hovland -8 (14)

The short par-four 14th offers up an opportunity for the pair. Koepka goes long into the back fringe while Hovland ends up short between the bunkers. The Norwegian goes first and does well to fly it back to the pin but he has eight feet for birdie...which he makes!! Great stuff from Viktor.

Koepka rolls his past the hole but it’s just three feet left and he too makes birdie. He keeps the one-shot lead with four holes remaining...

Rose makes a much-needed birdie

22:35 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (15), Rose -2 (15)

There hasn’t been much to write home about for Justin Rose this last hour but 25 feet for birdie on the 15th will do nicely. He’s back to even par for his round. Scheffler had a tricky stance but he’s able to get up and down for a par.

Birdies for Conners and DeChambeau

22:32 , Ben Fleming

Conners -2 (14), DeChambeau -3 (14)

Conners and DeChambeau are working as a pair it seems. A couple of holes back they both made bogey but they can take advantage of the short par-four 14th to make a pair of birdies this time.

Scheffler makes another birdie

22:27 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (14), Rose -1 (14)

In amongst the madness of Michael Block’s hole-in-one, Scheffler makes use of the short par-four 14th to knock in back-to-back birdies. He is back within two of the lead.

Rose has faded out of sight but makes par. His tournament is all but over.

Hovland birdies 13, lead back to one

22:25 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (13), Hovland -7 (13)

Koepka’s iron into the par-five green comes up short and it spins back off the green. The American tries to race it up to the pin but it flies by and he’ll be putting for a crucial par.

Meanwhile, Hovland steps up for his birdie effort...and makes it! What a performance from the Norwegian who just won’t go away.

Koepka for par...he makes it! Nervless stuff down the slope but the American’s lead is cut to one.

More misery for Conners

22:22 , Ben Fleming

Conners -1 (13), DeChambeau -2 (13)

Conners’ lack of experience was mentioned earlier on when we waked through the contenders and perhaps that has played a factor today. The Canadian makes his second-successive bogey and now sits at just one under par.

WATCH: MICHAEL BLOCK HOLE IN ONE

22:17 , Ben Fleming

Here is it in it’s beautiful entirety:

MICHAEL BLOCK HOLE IN ONE!!

22:14 , Ben Fleming

Can this story get any better? Well, yes it can!! On the par-three 15th tee and club pro Michael Block takes aim and it flies straight in for a hole-in-one. The first one of the tournament and what a person to get it. He can barely belive it as he picks it out of the hole and salutes the crowds.

He’s now back to even par - just remarkable.

Rory misses birdie chance

22:11 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -3 (14), Block +2 (14)

Just nine feet for a birdie and Block shows him the line but Rory can’t convert and remains at three under. He’s had his fare share of chances today but too many mistakes mixed - how many times have we said that?

Koepka birdies to lead by two

22:09 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (12), Hovland -6 (12)

Koepka hasn’t made a par in his last five holes but he has yet another birdie at the 12th. It’s a big putt from the off the green and it was never going anywhere else.

Hovland has a chance to respond...but it’s a tame effort from the Norwegian and it misses comfortably.

The American restores his two-shot lead.

Scheffler not out of it

22:06 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -5 (13), Rose -1 (13)

Scottie Scheffler inserts himself into the picture all of a sudden. A dart into the 13th green leaves him a simple birdie putt and even with his putting woes this week, the American knocks it in. He’s back within two of the lead.

Rose makes par to remain at one under.

Bogeys for Conners and DeChambeau

22:01 , Ben Fleming

Conners -2 (12), DeChambeau -2 (12)

Both Conners and DeChambeau make a meal of the relatively enticing and short 12th. Bogey fives for the pair and they are now five off the lead. That feels fatal for their tournament hopes.

Koepka makes bogey, lead back to one

21:56 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (11), Hovland -6 (11)

Koepka muscles his ball out of the sand from the difficult lie to about 12 feet. He gives it a good run...but it catches the left edge and passes by. A bogey for the leader right after his birdie the hole earlier.

Hovland can’t make his long-range birdie effort but settles for a par and is now just one back.

Birdie for McIlroy

21:55 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -3 (13), Block +2 (13)

Rory makes use of the par-five well and his third shot with the wedge gives him a good look for birdie. He converts and moves to three under but he’s fast running out of holes.

Block makes par and remains at two over.

Trouble off the tee for Koepka

21:50 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (10), Hovland -6 (10)

Fresh off the birdie, Koepka takes aim at the par-three 11th but it’s just not enough and plugs in the sand. That’s a nasty lie up against the lip of the bunker - less than ideal for the leader.

Hovland follows him but plays safely to the middle of the green.

Cam Davis rounds up

21:48 , Ben Fleming

Davis -3 (65)

The Australian is centimetres away from making yet another birdie on the last but it falls just short. Still, a remarkable round from the big-hitter who sits inside the top five as things stand.

Koepka birdies to lead by two

21:45 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (10), Hovland -6 (10)

This 10th has been a testing hole for many so far and it’s full of intrigue here. Koepka stuffs one in close and he’s got just under 8 feet for his birdie...which he makes. That’s his first birdie since the fourth and should calm some of the nerves that perhaps were creeping in.

Hovland has a longer-range effort but he races it by and there is work to do to ensure a par. Right in the middle of the cup - a good save from Hovland but he’s now two back.

Back-to-back bogeys for Rose

21:40 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -4 (11), Rose -1 (11)

It’s slowly unravelling for Rose around the turn. His tee shot into the par-three 11th is way right and the Englishman can only give himself an outside look at par after his chip-on. One over for the day now and back to one under par. Scheffler makes par to remain at four under.

Bogey for DeChambeau

21:38 , Ben Fleming

Conners -3 (10), DeChambeau -3 (10)

Bryson makes an unforced error and flies the green with his second. He’s unable to get up and down and he drops back into the chasing back at three under alongside his playing partner Conners who makes par.

Davis into fourth

21:37 , Ben Fleming

Davis -3 (17)

The big-hitting Aussie is having himself a round out there at Oak Hill. Having made an eagle on the par-four 14th, he knocks in a birdie 17 to move into a tie for fifth. Impressive stuff.

Hovland makes good par save

21:33 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (9), Hovland -6 (9)

Hovland shows some more deft touch from the thick rough to get the ball just on the green and feeding down toward the hole. He taps in for par and so does Brooks.

Onto the back nine we go...

Mixed fortunes for Scheffler and Rose

21:31 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -4 (10), Rose -2 (10)

Scheffler bounces immediately back after a bogey on nine to make birdie on ten and move back to four under. Rose races past his birdie effort and his par effort coming back lips out. Not what he needed and he’s back to level par for the day.

Conners and DeChambeau make the turn

21:29 , Ben Fleming

Conners -3 (9), DeChambeau - 4 (9)

Conners and DeChambeau both par the ninth and head towards the back nine. They’ll need to pick up some shots if either are going to challenge the leader.

Wayward of the tee from Koepka

21:25 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (8), Hovland -6 (8)

Nothing is ever certain in golf and Koepka is demonstrating that. He looked in total control a few holes ago but now seems a bit unsure over the ball. His drive on the ninth goes way left and lands amongst the crowd. He muscles his ball to the front of the green from the trodden-down rough.

Viktor has the middle of the fairway all to himself but it’s an unforced error from the Norweigan with a seven iron and it’s over the back and in the rough. A tough up and down to save par.

Scheffler drops back

21:19 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -3 (9), Rose -3 (9)

Just when things were starting to get moving for the Scheffler, he gives one back to the course with a bogey on the ninth. Rose misses his birdie effort and shows a hint of frustration and he remains at three under.

Good par save for Hovland

21:17 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (8), Hovland -6 (8)

Viktor is in the rough off the tee and muscles one towards the green but it just runs off and gets caught in the rough. It requires an expert touch to get it towards the hole and he shows just that. Nicely done by Hovland to make par.

Koepka trickles down his birdie effort and taps in for a par. He remains in the lead by one.

Consecutive birdies for Rory

21:14 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -2 (10), Block +2 (10)

The Rory experience continues as he makes birdies at nine and ten to move up to two under par. A massive eight holes needed for him if he’s to post a score. Block makes par and remains two over par.

DeChambeau bounces back

21:10 , Ben Fleming

Conners -3 (8), DeChambeau -4 (8)

The American knocks one in close and makes no mistake to get back up to three under par. He’s now just three back and certainly not out of it.

Bogeys for Koepka and Hovland

21:05 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (7), Hovland -6 (7)

Well, well, well. Has Brooks fully exorcised those final-day Masters demons? His second shot is poor and lands awkwardly in the lip of the bunker and it’s a tricky up and down. He does well to get it out on the putting surface but he can’t make par with the long-range effort. Back-to-back bogeys for him now.

Hovland is in trouble off the tee and has to lay up on the par four. It’s a long wedge into the green but he too leaves himself too much to do to save his par.

More dropped shots but Koepka maintains his one-shot lead for now.

Bogeys for DeChambeau and Conners

21:02 , Ben Fleming

Conners -3 (7), DeChambeau -3 (7)

With Koepka faltering a bit behind them, it would be the perfect time for this duo to make a move. They do make a move but in the wrong direction. The seventh is played badly by both and it’s bogeys apiece.

Smith sets clubhouse lead

21:00 , Ben Fleming

Smith -1 (65)

The low round of the day from the Open Champion is complete after a very handy par save at the last. Five under par and the Aussie finishes at one under for the tournament. Very well played.

Back-to-back birdies for Scheffler

20:57 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -4 (8), Rose -3 (8)

Scheffler is feeling himself here and the world number two makes another birdie to move to four under. Rose has a putt from closer...but it lips out. That’s a bad miss from him.

Birdies for Scheffler and Straka

20:53 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -3 (7), Straka -3 (15)

Scheffler has made the grand total of nothing these last two days but he finally gets on to sticks and jumps up to three under.

Over on the back nine and Straka has three birdies in a row to move him up to three under par.

Bogey for Koepka as lead cut to one

20:50 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (6), Hovland -7 (6)

The first time of nerves for our leader and his tee shot goes way left and into the water off the tee. There’s plenty of discussion but he eventually takes a drop and fires in a wonderful third shot to give him a look at par. It’s a long-range effort but it just drifts wide. That’s a bogey for the American but it could have been way worse.

Hovland finds himself in the fairway off the tee but it’s a nervy iron into the green and it catches the greenside bunker. He has to get up and down to save his par from just over eight feet...and he does!

That’s a super putt and the lead is now just one. How quickly it all can change...

Pars for Conners and DeChambeau

20:46 , Ben Fleming

Conners -4 (6), DeChambeau -4 (6)

Both of these two make a meal of the sixth but both escape with pars and remain still in it especially with what has just happened behind them with the leader...

Another bogey for Rory

20:41 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy E (7), Block +2 (7)

One step forward, one step back for Rory. He flies the green on the seventh and is in the thick rough - the last place he wants to be. He’s unable to get up and down and he moves back to even par. Barring a minor miracle, that feels fatal to his chances.

Block also makes bogey and the club pro drops back to two over par.

Back-to-back birdie for Straka

20:38 , Ben Fleming

Straka -2 (14), Perez -2 (9)

Five under for the Austrian today and he joins Scheffler at two under after another birdie.

Perez claims one back on the ninth and he now sits at two under as well after a front-nine 32.

Rose pours on in for birdie

20:36 , Ben Fleming

Rose -4 (6), Scheffler -2 (6)

Rose serves up a timely reminder to not forget about him in this contest. The Englishman has just over 20 feet for the birdie and makes no mistake. He’s five back but if he keeps putting like that then you never know...

A sixth-straight par for Scheffler who remains at two under.

Hovland cuts the lead to two

20:33 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (5), Hovland -7 (5)

Both of the final pair are safely aboard the fifth green. Koepka goes first and grazes the right edge with his effort - crikey that was close. Hovland steps up...and it’s in! The right length and the perfect line!

No emotion from the Norweigan but internally, he has to be pumped by that.

Three birdies in four for Smith

20:30 , Ben Fleming

Smith -2 (16)

He’s fast running out of holes but the low round of the day from the Open Champion. His seventh birdie of the day moves him up to two under par. What a round by the Aussie!

Mixed fortunes for DeChambeau and Conners

20:28 , Ben Fleming

Conners -4 (5), DeChambeau -4 (5)

Conners now goes bogey-birdie-bogey as he gifts another one back to the course after he can’t up and down from the greenside rough.

DeChambeau flies one in close and he takes full advantage. His first birdie of the day and the pair are now tied at four under par.

Three birdies in a row for Koepka

20:22 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -9 (4), Hovland -6 (4)

This is starting to look ominous. Koepka lays up on the par-five fourth and makes full use of the shorter wedge into the green. Another birdie chance...and another birdie for the American. He’s three under for the round and now nine under for the tournament.

Hovland under pressure also hits a super wedge into the green and makes his birdie to move to six under. Still three back but certainly not out of it.

Birdie for McIlroy

20:20 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -1 (6), Block +1 (6)

That is daylight robbery from Rory on the tough six. He’s way left off the tee with the spectators but stuffs an iron into the heart of the green which feeds down nicely towards the hole. He rolls in a 13-foot putt for birdie and gets back into the red.

Birdie miss for Rose

20:18 , Ben Fleming

Rose -3 (5), Scheffler -2 (5)

It’s a super tee shot into the par three from the Englishman and he uses the slope much like Perez did earlier. Unlike his European compatriot, though, he’s unable to take advantage as his putt slides by on the right side.

Scheffler finds himself in the greenside bunker off the tee but a superb up and down saves his par.

Conners bounces back with birdie

20:13 , Ben Fleming

Conners -5 (4), DeChambeau -3 (4)

We’ve not seen too much action from this par-five fourth as DeChambeau settles for a par but Conners does make a move courtesy of a beautiful wedge into the green. He taps in and bounces back straightaway after his bogey on the third.

Koepka leads by three with another birdie

20:04 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -8 (3), Hovland -5 (3)

Wow. In a blink of an eye, the four-time major champion leads by three. It’s a tee shot to just under five feet by the LIV Golf star and he makes no mistake.

Hovland’s tee shot comes up a bit shorter and he can’t make the lengthier effort - he’s got quite a task on his hands now to chase down Koepka if he keeps playing like this.

Bogey for Conners

20:02 , Ben Fleming

Conners -4 (3), DeChambeau -3 (3)

It’s been far from the usual ball-striking clinic so far from the Canadian as his tee shot finds the bunker. He can’t get up and down and he now drops a further shot off the pace. DeChambeau makes par to remain at three under.

American trio into the red

20:00 , Ben Fleming

Cantlay -1 (10), Kitayama -1 (8), Reed -1 (7)

Plenty of moves being made from those down the leaderboard. Reed goes to three under par for his round while Cantlay is up at four under par for the day. Kitayama is hanging around too and all three are in the top ten.

Another bogey for McIlroy

19:58 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy E (4), Block +1 (4)

Two bogeys in the opening fours holes is the last thing Rory would have wanted but that’s exactly what he’s produced. He races his birdie putt past the hole on the fourth and his par putt coming back lips out on the left side. Back to even par and now seven off the lead.

Block makes par to remain at one over.

Koepka extends lead to two shots

19:56 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -7 (2), Hovland -5 (2)

A lot of the final groups have taken aim at this pin on the second and Hovland and Koepka are no different.

Hovland goes first and it’s a similar putt to the one Scheffler missed...and so does Viktor. That’s a poor effort from him and the kind of putts you have to be making.

Koepka stuffs his to under five feet and he makes no mistake. The American makes the first move and he leads by two.

Pars all round for Rose and Scheffler

19:52 , Ben Fleming

Rose -3 (3), Scheffler -2 (3)

Nothing doing for either player with their birdie attempts on the par-three third and they remain at three and two under respectively.

Great par save for Conners

19:51 , Ben Fleming

Conners (-5), DeChambeau (-3)

The Canadian gets in some trouble off the tee but it’s a pin-perfect iron shot from the fairway to allow him to save par. DeChambeau gives his birdie effort a good roll but it just comes up short and he’ll have to settle for par.

Good par save from Hovland

19:46 , Ben Fleming

Koepka -6 (1), Hovland -5 (1)

Kopeka fires into the heart of the green but can’t make his birdie effort across the green.

Hovland was in bother off the tee but hacks out from the rough. He catches it hot out of the second cut and it flies through to the rough beyond the green but it’s a super touch from just off the putting surface to set up a par save. Those kinds of chips have often caused trouble for the Norwegian so that effort has to be a positive sign.

Perez into third

19:44 , Ben Fleming

Perez -3 (5)

The Frenchman has hardly been on our TV screens this week but he sure will be now - four in a row to move into a tie for third! He uses the slopes of the green nicely to set up the birdie effort on the par three and makes no mistake. He’s aboard the tricky sixth with another look at birdie...

Big par save for Rose

19:41 , Ben Fleming

Rose -3 (2), Scheffler -2 (2)

Rose lands himself in the greenside bunker after two and tries to get too cute with the chip. It’s out of the bunker but stays in the thick rough. He looks like he’s going to give a shot straight back like McIlroy but it’s a superb chip-in to save par!! A great recovery from the Englishman and a fist pump of acknowledgement.

Scheffler with another good look at birdie but it’s the same story for him - it slides past the right edge without enough pace. Just can’t buy a putt these last couple of days.

Opening pars for Conners and DeChambeau

19:36 , Ben Fleming

Conners -5 (1), DeChambeau -3 (1)

A minor criticism of Conners yesterday was his lack of aggression with the putter but he gives this one plenty of run and it nearly catches a piece of the hole. DeChambeau misreads a good look at birdie but he taps in for par.

Leader Koepka off and running

19:34 , Ben Fleming

Koepka (-6), Hovland (-5)

The leader arrive at the tee - a few more cheers greet him but still a smattering of boos. He finds the fairway but Hovland has work to do as his drive runs out of fairway on the right.

McIlroy drops straight back

19:31 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -1 (2), Block +1 (2)

Oh, Rory. Middle of the fairway on the second and it's an unforced error into the rough on the right. He chips it out best he can but it's a long putt coming back...and it races by.

The fine birdie on one is given straight back and he goes back to one under. Block makes par to remain at one over par.

Conners and DeChambeau underway

19:30 , Ben Fleming

Conners (-5), DeChambeau (-3)

The penultimate pairing find the fairway with their tee shots and they head out onto the course.

Three in a row for Perez

19:26 , Ben Fleming

Perez -2 (4)

Not content with just two birdies in his first three, the Frenchman makes it three in his first four and he’s now up at two under par.

Rose makes an early move

19:25 , Ben Fleming

Rose -3 (1), Scheffler -2 (1)

Anything Rory can do, Justin can do just as well. A glorious second shot into the first sets up a birdie on the first for the Englishman. Spare a thought for Scheffler who hits a lovely putt from 16 feet which does everything but go in as it loops round the hole. Tough break but symptomatic of the ongoing putting woes for the world number two.

Straka bounces back

19:19 , Ben Fleming

Straka E (8)

The big-hitting Austrian is putting together a nice round and returns to level par with a birdie on the eighth which loops around the hole’s edge before dropping in.

Birdie for McIlroy

19:13 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy -2 (1), Block +1 (1)

Rory makes no mistake and he’s off and running with a birdie. Block gives it a good run with the par-save attempt but it’s got too much pace and misses on the right side. An early dropped shot for the club pro.

Back on the tee, Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler get underway with both finding the fairway.

Glorious from McIlroy

19:11 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy (-1), Block (E)

Block is in trouble up against the back of the fairway bunker. He hacks out but hits an impressive iron in to give himself a chance at saving par. McIlroy makes the most of his excellent drive and hits his approach stone dead. That should be a kick-in birdie to get his round started in the perfect way.

Back-to-back birdies for Perez and Kitayama

19:09 , Ben Fleming

Perez -1 (3), Kitayama -1 (5)

Both of these players have enjoyed good years, winning on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour respectively. Their now also both inside the top ten with two birdies apiece early in their rounds. It feels like a score is there to be set out there right now.

McIlroy and Block underway

19:03 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy (-1), Block (E)

It’s rare that someone gets more cheers than Rory McIlroy when their name is read out but club pro Michael Block might have just done it. His drive heads towards the left rough and bunker while McIlroy hits the middle of the fairway.

Fleetwood underway

18:57 , Ben Fleming

Fleetwood (+1), Suh (E)

Tommy played an impressive round of golf yesterday to leave him just over par for the tournament. He heads off the first with the young American Justin Suh. As they do, the noise builds around the first with McIlroy and Block teeing off shortly after them.

Straka up to even par

18:47 , Ben Fleming

Straka E (5)

Sepp Straka is one of those trying to make the necessary move up the leaderboard and he makes his third birdie of the day to get to even par. He’s in trouble in the rough after two on the next hole, though, and will need a good up and down to save par.

Bogey for Lowry at first

18:45 , Ben Fleming

Lowry +2 (1), Cole +1 (1)

Shane needs birdies...and plenty of them if he’s to set a score for the leaders. With that in mind, a lip-out bogey five on the first is not what he had in mind. He drops back to two over par.

Missed chance for Rahm

18:39 , Ben Fleming

Rahm +5 (13)

The Spaniard hits a sparkling iron into the fifth green but it’s a really poor putt from just under feet and the birdie opportunity passes by for the world number one.

Work to do for Matsuyama

18:36 , Ben Fleming

Matsuyama +6 (3)

The 2021 Masters Champion clearly didn’t get the memo about the good scoring so far today. He’s bogeyed the first three holes to drop back to six over par.

Birdies for Lee and Reed at the first

18:26 , Ben Fleming

Reed +1 (1), Lee E (1)

Plenty of birdies on the first and Reed and Min Woo Lee are the latest to follow that trend. Reed knocks in from 11 feet while the Aussie chips in from off the green. Good start for the pair.

Another one drops for Smith

18:23 , Ben Fleming

Smith E (6)

There is no stopping the Open Champion today and he adds his fourth birdie at the sixth to move up to even par.

If he can negotiate the tough end to the front nine, there are holes to be targeted on the back nine. Set a low score at three or four under and you never know...

Rahm drops one at 10

18:09 , Ben Fleming

Rahm +5 (11)

The world number one was enjoying a fruitful start to his round with birdies at 1 and 2 but there has been nothing forthcoming since and he’s now back to five over par after he misses an 8 feet putt for par.

Smith and Straka into the top ten

17:59 , Ben Fleming

Smith +1 (4), Straka +1 (2)

Those chasing down Koepka later on have surely got to like what they are seeing from this course so far. Smith pours another in for three birdie in a row. Straka also makes birdie and the pair now sit in a tie for tenth.

Plenty of early movement up the leaderboard.

History awaits Koepka

17:53 , Ben Fleming

Koepka (-6), Hovland (-5) - 7:30pm BST

The final group of today sees four-time major champion Brooks Koepka head out with Viktor Hovland. Koepka shot the round of the day on Saturday - a four under 66 - and takes a one-shot lead into today’s action. He lead the Masters just a month ago but wilted on that occasion. He now has the chance to redeem himself and secure his name in the record books.

Hovland was also in contention at the Masters but couldn’t get over the line on that occasion. The Norwegian has often been near the top of the board in recent majors and has demonstrated his typical ball-striking excellence to sit just one off the lead. Like Koepka, he’ll be hoping that recent experiences will aid his quest to capture his first major title.

Three in a row for Tarren

17:44 , Ben Fleming

Tarren +3 (15)

The Englishman endured a torrid day on the course yesterday as he shot a nine-over-par 79. He seems to have put that all behind him and is currently shooting the low round of the day after birdies at 13, 14 and 15.

Four under for the day and up to a tie for 23rd.

Back-to-back birdies for Smith

17:38 , Ben Fleming

Smith +2 (3)

Cam Smith makes his putt on the third looks easy and he’s now up into the top 20. Elsewhere, Reavie will have another look at birdie too after a good approach into the sixth while Rahm impressively saves par at the ninth after a glorious flop shot from the rough behind the green.

Conners and DeChambeau right in the mix

17:35 , Ben Fleming

Conners (-5), DeChambeau (-3) - 7:20pm BST

Conners was quietly going about building a really solid round of golf yesterday but one mistake from the 16th bunker and the resulting double bogey undid all the hard work for the Canadian. He still shot an even-par round but must now come from behind if he is to win his first major. He’s undoubtedly the least experienced player in contention but there’s no reason to think he can’t get it done based on how he’s navigated the course these past three days.

He’ll be playing alongside Bryson DeChambeau who contends for the first time since recovering from a set of serious wrist injuries. The big-hitting American already has a US Open to his name and is just three back from his fellow LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka.

Chez Reavie chips in

17:26 , Ben Fleming

Reavie +2 (5)

I can’t say I’ve seen much of the American so far this week but with the bunched nature of this course, plenty of players can shoot up the leaderboard in these calmer fourth-round conditions. With the birdie, he moves to +2 and is three under already for his rounds.

Back on the second, Cam Smith makes birdie after a fine iron into the green and he moves to three over par.

Rose and Scheffler still in with a shout

17:23 , Ben Fleming

Rose (-2), Scheffler (-2) - 7:10pm BST

Heading out after McIlroy and Block are Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler, both poised and looking to upset the odds at two under par.

Rose has struggled to find the fairway with great consistency this week but an awesome performance with the putter yesterday saw him shoot a one-under-par 69. He’s as experienced as they come to major championship final rounds but will need another fine putting display to usurp those ahead of him.

One person who definitely could do with Rose’s putting expertise is Scheffler who has struggled to make anything of note over these last three days. He was three over par yesterday after starting the third round in a tie for the lead but without a marked improvement on the greens, it’s hard to see the world number two challenging the leader.

Plenty of early birdies

17:11 , Ben Fleming

Matt NeSmith and Keegan Bradley make birdies at the first to move into the top 20. That hole is proving fruitful early on - could be one to watch out for as the contenders look to make an early move on Koepka.

Can McIlroy upset the odds?

17:07 , Ben Fleming

McIlroy (-1), Block (E) - 7:00pm BST

Five shots back could be too much of an ask but you can be sure Rory McIlroy is going to give it everything he’s got to make a move up the leaderboard. It’s fair to say the Northern Irishman has not been at his best over the past three days but he’s battled himself into outside contention in less-than-ideal circumstances.

Last year’s winner Justin Thomas came from way back and Rory will be hoping to do the same today.

He’ll be teeing it up alongside club pro Michael Block who has become one of the stories of the week. The Californian, who teaches golf full-time, has carded three successive rounds of 70 to sit at even par. No club pro has finished in the top ten for 50 years but with another solid round Block could break that historic record.

Out on the course

16:54 , Ben Fleming

Before we start taking a look at the contenders coming out later in the afternoon, a quick look at what is going on out on the course from the early starters.

The first thing to note - it is dry. There’s some breeze and that could pick up during the day but it looks like a day for scoring.

World number one Jon Rahm is two under par so far today, as is Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth. Adam Scott is currently producing the round of the day so far, with the Aussie three under par after eight holes.
