Pharmacy Town found new Middlebrook Plaza home fast after Ocean Township Foodtown died

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - Pharmacy Town had to move quickly after Super Foodtown of Ocean on Route 35 decided to close.

The pharmacy, owned by pharmacist Dev Tailor, was subleasing space inside the supermarket, so Tailor knew he eventually would have to leave too. His goal: find a space in Middlebrook Plaza, the shopping center at the corner of Route 35 and Deal Road where the old Foodtown is located.

He got it, just a few doors down in a space formerly occupied by Weight Watchers and next to GNC. The new location opens on Nov. 14, Taylor told What's Going There.

"It's a good location for our customers," Tailor said. "Customers will know exactly where we are."

Super Foodtown closed in August after Middletown-based Food Circus Super Markets was unable to come to terms with the landlord on a new lease. So far, there's no word on what will take Foodtown's place.

It was "very stressful," Tailor said. "It was very difficult to move within three months since the Foodtown closed." Usually, he added, it can take six months to move a pharmacy, given the need to follow the state regulations and obtain permits from the town.

"We had to move as soon as possible," Tailor said.

In the meantime, customers continued to walk through the door for pharmacy services, including COVID boosters and flu vaccines, Tailor said.

But his new pharmacy will give Tailor a chance to expand and offer new products, such as more over the counter products, first aid kits, vitamins, creams and moisturizers. Those sorts of items were restricted because they were also for sale at Foodtown, he added.

It is a "bigger space for our growing business," Tailor said.
