My 401(k) has been in the dumper. The microwave just went on the fritz. And so did the air conditioner in my car. Don’t even get me started on the prices at the pump. I needed to get out of the house and enjoy myself without any further taxing of my bank account.

My friend from college Marc was in town, and we headed to the Jenks Building in Cuyahoga Falls for some live music, a bottle of wine and a few games of pool. It’s a pretty cool place. The people are friendly, and there’s a lot of artwork and eclectic things to purchase and enjoy. Just what I needed.

There’s a nice selection of wine bottles priced under $20 to sip on while you are listening to the free live music. (Just tip the band because they play for free.) I picked out a bottle of Borsao Garnacha Seleccion from Spain that only set me back $11.99.

Marc and I went upstairs to the art gallery/billiard room and played a few free games of pool. That’s how they roll at the Jenks. Just buy a bottle of wine and you can have the pool table to yourself.

“It’s a billiard room to share time with the people you care about,” said owner Michael Owen. “It’s a place away. You could be anywhere. You could be upstairs in New York. You could be upstairs in Nashville. You could be on the second floor of a building in Miami on a hot summer night with a conversation you enjoy with a bottle of your pleasure.”

I liked the wine so much that I purchased another bottle a few days later. It’s an easy drinking bottle and very food friendly. Lots of rich blackberry flavors. Perfect with a carry-our order of Jetty wings with sweet soy sauce. Those babies are delish.

The Jenks Building opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday to Saturday, closing at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with extended hours on Thursday until 9 p.m., Friday until 8 p.m. and Saturday until 7 p.m. for live music.
