Sauvignon blanc is not my first choice for white wine, as I am partial to Italian and Spanish whites. However, wine drinkers should be adventurous. And I am glad I am, because I recently tried Long Meadow Ranch’s sauvignon blanc — and I love it. There. I finally said it. I really do.

This $15.99 bottle was so refreshing. It had nice citrus flavors and a slightly creamy finish. It brought back fond memories of my visit to the winery, which is a "must see" stop on the Napa Valley wine trail. Their Farmstead Restaurant is a fabulous place to eat.

Sauvignon blanc loves goat cheese. And garlic. So I made some goat cheese crostini with a little honey drizzle, which was pretty fab. I also brought back a couple jars of Meredith Dairy’s garlic-marinated goat and sheep cheese from the Oxbow Market in Napa. Put that on a few petits toasts from the Market District, and that’s a wine pairing nirvana.

Friday, May 6, is International Sauvignon Blanc Day. Thanks to the folks at Long Meadow Ranch, I am ready to celebrate.

Buy this wine at both Mustard Seed Market locations, Krieger’s Market, Beau’s Market in Copley, Cornerstone Market in Munroe Falls, Heinen’s Hudson, Twinsburg and Bainbridge, Twinsburg Beverage, Top Shelf of Ohio in Jackson Township, Fisher’s on Fulton, Avenue Wine Shop in Canton, Home Buys in North Canton, and 101 Bottles of Beer in Kent.
