Philadelphia 76ers reportedly sign ex-Michigan State star Aaron Henry right after NBA draft

Former Michigan State basketball star Aaron Henry, who bypassed his senior season to enter the 2021 NBA draft, did not get picked on Thursday.

But as soon as the 60th and final selection was made, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Henry has agreed to a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Henry led the Spartans in scoring (15.4 points),rebounds (5.6), assists (3.6) and steals (1.3) per game this season. In his final game, he led MSU scoring 16 points in an overtime loss to UCLA in the NCAA tournament.

As a three-star recruit from Indianapolis, he appeared in all 39 games his freshman season for a team that won the Big Ten and went on to the Final Four. Boasting a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Henry was known for his versatility, capably guarding multiple positions. He established himself as an active and disciplined defender and averaged 1.3 blocks per game.

Henry emerged as a starter his sophomore year and finished the season third on the team in scoring with 10 points, 4.6 rebounds (second on the team) and 2.9 assists (third) per game. He then declared for the draft before returning for his junior year and earning nods where he was selected to the All-Big Ten third team and defensive team.

For scouts, Henry's outside shooting was his biggest concern which dropped him to the second round. This past season he shot below 30% from beyond the arc (29.6%), a dip from 34.4% the previous season.

In three seasons as a Spartan, he appeared in 97 games, started 77 and averaged 9.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game.
