New Philadelphia City Schools Quaker Foundation selects alumni honorees

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Quaker Foundation’s annual recognition banquet will be held Friday at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University Tuscarawas, 330 University Drive NE.

The alumni to be honored are:

  • Donald "Brad" Zimmerman, Class of 1971

  • Timothy Hawk, Class of 1982

  • Debra Aubihl-Knisely, Class of 1975

  • Whitney Moore Daum, Class of 2005.

Scholarship awards will be presented to 80 members of the Class of 2023.

Order tickets by contacting the Quaker Foundation at 330-343-0100. Tickets will also be available for a donation of any amount at the door starting at 6 p.m. Desserts will be served at 6:30, with the awards program to follow at 7:30.

Alumnus of the Year for Lifetime Contribution Award

Donald "Brad" Zimmerman earned his juris doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University. He joined the law firm of Fitzpatrick and Zimmerman Co.; now Fitzpatrick, Zimmerman & Rose Co.

He was instrumental in creating the Tuscarawas County Title Co., a real estate title agency serving eastern Ohio with three offices operating in connection with the law firm. He retired from practicing law in 2020 after more than 40 years.

He has been serving as a board member and many times president of the Tuscarawas County Rainbow Connection charity for over 45 years and is a co-founder and director/shareholder of WTUZ Radio.

Alumnus of the Year for Special Achievement Award

Timothy Hawk is nationally recognized as an architectural practice leader, workplace designer, and educator. He was honored as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2014 in recognition of his national influence.

Hawk leads WSA, a multi-disciplinary design studio. He is an adjunct faculty member at both the Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture and Columbus State Community College. He serves as the national treasurer for the American Institute of Architects.

Hawk was recognized with the AIA Ohio Mentor Award and has received the AIA Columbus President’s Award twice. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from Ohio State and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In New Philadelphia, Hawk has renovated and expanded First United Methodist Church and the Donahey estate on North Broadway, and designed three custom homes.

Debra Aubihl-Knisely

Alumnus of the Year for Distinguished Service Award

Debra Aubihl-Knisely graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1975. She owns and operates two retail establishments in downtown New Philadelphia: Alley Cats Marketplace, a gift and art gallery; and Fresh the Market, a specialty food market.

Before creating these businesses, Aubihl-Knisely had a successful career in marketing.

Whitney Daum
Whitney Daum

Alumnus of the Year − Previous Scholarship Recipient Award

Whitney Moore Daum earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Akron and began her nursing career at Akron Children’s Hospital.

She earned her master of public health with the focus on infectious disease and has been in the field of hospital infection prevention and control for nearly a decade. She also earned a master's in nursing in the field of infection prevention in control.
