The Philadelphia Eagles have a song popularly known as "Fly, Eagles Fly" that is often played at their NFL games.

One of their players flew on the track on Sunday to the tune of the third-fastest 110 meter hurdles time in history.

Devon Allen, a former Arizona high school football and track standout, accomplished the feat at the USATF NYC Grand Prix, winning the 110 meter hurdles in 12.84 seconds.

American Aries Merritt. who won a gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics, holds the world record with a time of 12.80 seconds, set on Sept. 7, 2012.

Allen, 27, signed with the Eagles as a free agent in April. He has competed in the past two summer Olympics while focusing on track, but is looking to get back into football, where he excelled early in his career at Oregon.

A four-star recruit at wide receiver coming out of Phoenix Brophy Prep, Allen had 41 catches for 684 yards and seven touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2014.

He suffered a knee injury during the Rose Bowl that slowed his career on the football field and had another knee injury in 2016.

Allen twice won the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 110M hurdles and turned pro in 2016.

He won the 110M hurdles at the 2016 Olympic Trials and finished fifth in that year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He returned to the Olympics five years later and just missed medaling in the Tokyo (held in 2021), where he finished four-tenths of a second off the bronze medal.

Allen still holds the Arizona high school record in the 110 hurdles, set in 2013, when he ran it in 13.48 seconds. He held the 300 hurdles state record at 36.39, before Brophy teammate Bobby Grant broke it in 2014, running it in 36.24 seconds.

Allen attended Oregon's pro day, running the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds, catching the attention of the Eagles.

The Eagles signed him to a three-year contract.

Allen told The Oregonian in April that he still is going to compete in the hurdles at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in June and the World Athletics Championships in July, but made it clear that during his pro day he was serious about playing football again.

After signing with the Eagles he told The Arizona Republic's Richard Obert in a direct message that "It was always the plan to come back to football! Go Eagles!"

Allen showed that he can fly on the track with his time Sunday.

Will he fly on the football field for the Eagles?
