Philadelphia Street near Appell Center will be closed Jan. 5-7 for construction

West Philadelphia Street from North George Street to North Beaver Street will be closed the weekend of Jan. 5 to Jan. 7, 2024 because of construction at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, according to a news release from York City.

The closure will begin at 5 a.m. on Friday and is expected to end by 8 p.m. on Sunday. No parking will be in effect on the construction area of West Philadelphia Street a day prior to the start of construction. according to the release.

"Access to the Philadelphia Street garage will be cut off during the construction.  Vehicles will not be able to enter the garage, but vehicles will be able to exit on to Gas Avenue. People with monthly access to the Philadelphia Street garage also will be able to park at the City parking garages located at the corner of West King Street and South George Street as well as on the first block of East Market Street," said the release.

According to the release, alternate parking will remain available on Saturday and Sunday at the city parking lots at the corner of West Philadelphia Street and Pershing Avenue, the 200 block of North Beaver Street, and the 200 block of West Market Street. Any parked vehicles on these lots without a permit will have to be moved prior to 7 am Monday morning.

Westbound traffic on Philadelphia Street will have the option of turning left or right at George Street. Truck traffic should avoid the area and use Princess Street as an alternate route. Cherry Lane between Clarke Avenue and Philadelphia Street will also be closed.
