Philip Seymour Hoffman Autopsy Says He Died from Accidental Mixed Drug Overdose
The toxicology report from the investigation into the death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman detected heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines and amphetamine in his system, according to the New York medical examiner's office. The official cause of death is "acute mixed drug intoxication," and the medical examiner concluded it was accidental. NBC News reported the medical examiner's findings on Friday afternoon.
Hoffman died at the beginning of February in his New York City apartment. At the time, officials reportedly found the actor's body with a needle still in his arm, and several bags of what appeared to be heroin in his apartment. That led to weeks of speculation and rubber-necking over the circumstances of his death. The actor sought treatment for drug abuse decades ago, something he spoke of openly in recent years.
Sadly, Hoffman left behind three young children: Cooper, 10; Tallulah 7, and Willa, 5. As an actor, the Academy Award-winning performer left us with a remarkable body of work, along with hints of the performances that we'll never have.
