Phillip Schofield has been dropped by his agent after the TV host admitted to lying about an affair with a This Morning employee.
The news comes a week after he quit the series with immediate effect amid reports of a “feud” with his co-star, Holly Willoughby, who shared a statement about the revelation on Saturday (27 May).
His admission has sent shockwaves across the British TV industry, with former ITV employees Eamonn Holmes, Piers Morgan and Carol McGiffin among the stars to share their reactions online, with the former stating “blimey” with an embarrassed-face emoji.
On Friday (26 May), Schofield said: “It is with the most profound regret that after 35 years of being faultlessly managed by YMU I have agreed to step down from their representation with immediate effect.”
He then released a statement to the Daily Mail, explaining that he had an “unwise” but “consensual on-off relationship with someone working on This Morning” while he was married.
Schofield also revealed he has officially cut ties with ITV altogether. An ITV spokesperson said the channel felt “badly let down” by Schofield, and accepted his resignation.

On Friday (26 May), Phillip Schofield admitted to lying about an affair with a colleague on This Morning.
The news comes less than a week after he dramatically quit the show he presented alongside Holly Willoughby amid rumours of a feud between the two.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Schofield said: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
“In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven’t been truthful about the relationship.”

The presenter, who co-hosted the ITV daytime series alongside Schofield for 12 years, posted an update on her Instagram Stories, saying: “It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news.”
She said she had “asked Phil directly” about rumours of his relationship with a This Morning colleague was true, but he assured it was not.
“When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not,” she wrote, adding: It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie.”

Mary Bekhait, the group chief executive of YMU Group, said: “Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s whole business, defining everything we do.

“This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield.
“These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisers we had brought in to support him.

The host, who quit This Morning last weekend, was set to host the British Soap Awards in June.

Eamonn Holmes issues brutal criticism of Holly Willoughby after Phillip Schofield leaves This Morning

Eamonn Holmes has shared a startling claim about Phillip Schofield‘s decision to quit This Morning.
On Saturday (20 May), Schofield announced he was “stepping down” from the ITV daytime show a week after it was reported he had fallen out with Willoughby, his co-host.
However, Holmes, who previously called the pair “actors”, has questioned Schofield’s wording. In the statement, he said: “ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.”
Holmes believes the presenter “was sacked”.

ITV issued a response this week to speculation that Phillip Schofield was “sacked” from his role as co-host on its popular daytime show This Morning.
Following claims by former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes, who now fronts a show for GB News, the broadcaster insisted that Schofield’s departure was a mutual agreement between him and ITV.
“Phillip Schofield’s decision to step down from This Morning was (as his statement made clear) a decision agreed between Phillip and ITV,” a spokesperson told The Independent.
The 61-year-old left following intense scrutiny over his relationship with co-host Holly Willoughby, amid rumours the pair had fallen out.

After previously criticising Phillip Schofield, Eamonn Holmes has now taken aim at This Morning’s remaining host Holly Willoughby.
Holmes criticised Willoughby over her claim she was “sad” Schofield was departing the show, saying: “Well, she wanted him not there, so what is she moaning about? Holly is being as false as he is and nobody is talking about the elephant in the room.”

While speaking on GB News, former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes said: “Oh please, just stop this. [Schofield] was sacked. All this nonsense of ‘I’ve decided to step down’. I’m sure you did – ‘here’s your P45 now step down’.”

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha has become the latest ITV star to discuss Phillip Schofield’s departure from This Morning.
Speaking on her podcast Coffee Moaning, the daytime TV star explained why many ITV stars hadn’t discussed the topic publicly.
“This story with Phillip and Holly is just huge, it’s just everywhere. There’s so much speculation and so much chat,” she said.
“I think everybody at ITV, like my colleagues... there is the constant question of why haven’t we said anything? Why are we not saying anything?”
