Phillip Schofield TV series rumours: Are we still interested in This Morning scandal?

Phillip Schofield’s This Morning drama is rumoured to be the subject of an upcoming TV drama.
The presenter’s fall from grace this year gripped the nation, with the story dominating the headlines for days.
And according to The Sun, there are now rumours about it being made into a television series that has the working title, The Runner.

There is no official word on any plans for a show, but a source claimed that a production company had begun working on it and that it would “mirror how the scandal unfolded”.
What actually happened with Schofield?
The real-life drama started in May this year with reports of a tension between Schofield and his This Morning co-presenter – and former close friend – Holly Willoughby.
It spiralled into a turbulent period that saw the presenter exiting the ITV programme and admitting to having an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much younger ITV staff member.
Schofield later sat down with the BBC’s Amol Rajan and said his television career was in the past and that he had “lost everything”.
He also said he understood how late Love Island host Caroline Flack – who took her own life in 2020 – must have felt.
Other real dramas that have been turned into TV
Schofield’s story certainly wouldn’t be the first real-life scandal to end up on the small screen, as there has been a trend of dramatising very recent events lately.
Last year saw the release of This England, a series about Boris Johnson.
It starred Kenneth Branagh as the former Prime Minister and focused on the coronavirus pandemic and the UK government's response to it.
Coleen Rooney’s Wagatha Christie case has also had the TV treatment.
The saga started in 2019 when Rooney accused fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her from her Instagram account to The Sun.

Vardy denied it and sued Rooney for libel, but lost the case last summer.
Just months later the story was retold in Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama, which starred Natalia Tena as Vardy, Chanel Cresswell as Rooney and Michael Sheen as a barrister.
