Rey Mysterio is now a global superstar, but when he first cut his teeth in America, he was a Philly guy.

Mysterio, a longtime WWE superstar, was a star in Mexico before coming to the United States, but as soon as he stepped foot in Extreme Championship Wrestling, he was one of the most popular wrestlers in the promotion.

He went on to become a huge star in World Championship Wrestling and later became a household name in WWE. And now he's going to be the face of a long awaited video game.

The company announced Thursday that Mysterio would be the cover wrestler for WWE 2K22, which comes out in March.

"Representing the culture of Lucha Libre as the cover Superstar for WWE 2K22 is a moment of great pride for me," the longtime wrestler said in a news release. "I'm looking forward to sharing the stories behind the big moments of my career with a dedicated community of players and connecting with WWE fans in a whole new way as they play through my 2K Showcase."

Mysterio has come a long way from performing at the ECW Arena in South Philadelphia, now dubbed the 2300 Arena. He made a return to the popular venue as a surprise for House of Hardcore in 2015 and received a hero's welcome.

Now fans will be able to use him as a playable character in the popular video game that comes out on March 11 for PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as PC.
