Phoebus’ Jordan Bass and Mychal McMullin named Peninsula District players of the year

The saying, “To the victor goes the spoils,” definitely applies to Phoebus and the All-Peninsula District football team.

Following a 10-0 regular season in which the Phantoms won all nine district games — with no margin closer than 26 points — they dominated the awards in every category.

The Phantoms captured 15 spots on the all-district first team. Three of their players — Jordan Bass, Jayden Earley and Keyontae Gray — earned two first-team spots each.

In addition, Bass, a wide receiver, was selected the Offensive Player of the Year, while Phantoms lineman Mychal McMullin was selected Player of the Year.

Topping it all off, Phoebus coach Jeremy Blunt, who guided the Phantoms to the Class 3 state title a year ago, was voted Coach of the Year.

“This season has proven to be a competitive one for the Peninsula District. There’s a ton of talent out there, so it’s always good to see your kids get recognized for their hard work,” Blunt said. “Jordan and Mychal have played lights-out football this year.

“Player of the Year is a well-deserved honor for both of them.”
