Here are the top stories in Phoenix today:

  1. A recent survey ranked Phoenix as the 12th most neighborly city in the United States. The high rating was attributed to high rates of neighbor satisfaction and community involvement. Though many Phoenix residents are satisfied with their neighborhood, over half of those surveyed said they planned to move in the near future, with 30% citing cost of living concerns. (AZ Big Media)

  2. Michael Duran has been selected as the new Chief of the Phoenix Fire Department, taking over the position upon the retirement of Chief Kara Kalkbrenner on Feb. 22. Duran has spent 27 years with the Phoenix Fire Department and currently works as an Assistant Chief, supervising the Medical and Support Service Division. (Signals AZ)

  3. Students at Arizona State University Preparatory Academy are creating an air filtration system to keep kids in schools and COVID-19 out. The filtration system, which removes about 85% of the viral load, was put together by the school's COVID-19 Case Investigation Community Response team. The goal of the project is to get the prototype filters into more classrooms across the state. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)

From our sponsor:

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
