Baby dies after being left in hot van in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a baby is dead after being left inside a hot vehicle in Phoenix.

Authorities say the father of the 4-month-old girl drove to work Tuesday and forgot about his daughter, who was still strapped in a car seat.

It's unclear how long the baby was in the car on the 89-degree day.

A Phoenix Fire Department crew was dispatched about a report of a child being found in a van in a school parking lot.

Firefighters say the girl was beyond any resuscitative efforts and was pronounced dead. Her name hasn't been released.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the inside of a car can heat up to 120 degrees in 30 minutes even when the outside temperature is 85 degrees.
