Phoenix police identify suspect, man killed in shooting at party

Phoenix police have identified the man who died in a shooting Sunday at a party near 46th Street and McDowell Road in which five others were injured, along with the suspect in his homicide.

The Phoenix Fire Department pronounced Carlos Santos-Noriega, 43, dead at the scene, according to Phoenix police. Three others were taken to a hospital, including one juvenile woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound and an adult man and woman each with gunshot wounds that were not life threatening. The other people involved remain unidentified.

Police said another man later arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound that was not life threatening.

The suspected shooter, who Phoenix police identified as 18-year-old Brian Sapon-Deleon, was also taken to a hospital with a laceration that was not life threatening, police said.

Around 2 a.m. early Sunday morning, officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to a house where a shooting was reported, according to Phoenix police . When they arrived, they found multiple people with gunshot wounds and a man, Sapon-Deleon, being held down by witnesses. He was then taken into custody.

Police said detectives learned a group of men got into a physical fight during the party. During the fight, detective believe Sapon-Deleon pulled out a gun and shot into the crowd several times as he tried to run away.

On Tuesday, Sapon-Deleon was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and has been charged on suspicion of first-degree murder, along with multiple felony aggravated assaults.
