Phoenix Suns to honor Al McCoy at halftime of game vs. Los Angeles Clippers Sunday

The Phoenix Suns announced Friday that they will honor legendary team broadcaster Al McCoy at halftime of the team's game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

McCoy is retiring at the end of the season after 51 years calling Suns games, the longest run by a team broadcaster in NBA history.

McCoy first called a Suns game on Sept. 27, 1972. Since then he has called more than 4,000 Suns games, 30 NBA playoff appearances by the team and three NBA Finals runs (1976,1993, 2021).

McCoy told The Arizona Republic last month that he was "committed" to calling Suns games for the rest of the regular season and playoffs this season.

Sunday's game against the Clippers is the Suns' final regular season game.

McCoy turns 90 on April 26.

In 2017, McCoy was inducted into the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor.

He received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during Enshrinement Weekend in September 2007.

Throughout the game, fans in attendance can take advantage of special discounts at the Team Shop and can win autographed merchandise from the 2022-23 Suns roster and up to $300 in gift cards courtesy of Fry’s Food Stores.
