Phoenix water main break restricts traffic on Van Buren between 19th and 17th avenues
Crews were working on repairing a water main break on 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to Phoenix officials.
Westbound traffic was restricted on Van Buren Street from 19th to 17th avenues. Drivers were asked to drive with caution and use other routes if possible.
Traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place through Monday night and could extend to Tuesday morning, according to Athena Sanchez, a spokesperson for Phoenix water services.
Sanchez said they don't know exactly what caused the water main break.
"Staff are working diligently to remove some of the restrictions to help alleviate the traffic but of course, safety of the employees working will come first," Sanchez said.
