The claim: Obama was with Jeffrey Epstein in a boat with a girl

A Jan. 9 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) shows a picture of former President Barack Obama in a boat with a young girl and a man identified as Jeffrey Epstein, the late disgraced financier and alleged sex trafficker.

"Where were these 2 going with a girl in a boat?" the caption reads in Spanish.

Obama was not with Epstein in the boat. The photo shows Obama with the actor George Clooney during a boat ride in Italy in June 2019. Epstein is not present in this photo.

Obama was on vacation with family

While Obama was vacationing in Europe with his family in June 2019, they went on a boat ride with Clooney and his family on Lake Como, where the actor owns a home.

USA TODAY published a photo that showed Obama's and Clooney's wives and other people present on the cruise.

The post also claims Obama visited Epstein Island, but there is no evidence to support that assertion.

Obama's name was not mentioned in the newly unsealed documents from a lawsuit tied to Epstein, as USA TODAY noted in a prior fact check.
