At long last, Mazda's 2.2-liter diesel engine has reached the U.S. market. Its first application here? The 2019 Mazda CX-5, where it joins the crossover's gas-fed entry-level 2.5-liter engine and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine.

Mazda restricts the diesel to its range-topping Signature trim level, which as you can see comes with a wonderfully appointed interior. (As it should-the diesel-powered CX-5 will sticker for over $40,000.) Fuel economy and power aren't as impressive as one might expect from an engine that Mazda has spent the better part of a decade working to bring stateside, however.
