PHOTOS: DC police recover guns from home where officers shot, barricade situation took place

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department searched the home of the man who is accused of shooting three D.C. police officers before barricading himself inside for hours.

48-year-old Stephen Claude Rattigan – who initially identified himself as Julius James – was charged with felony assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence for shooting the three officers.

Suspect surrenders after hours-long barricade in Southeast DC

While searching his home on Thursday, police say they recovered three handguns, two rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a bulletproof vest. Some of the items recovered are pictured below:

Rattigan is accused of shooting the three officers in Southeast D.C. on Wednesday morning while they were trying to serve an arrest warrant for animal cruelty. He then barricaded himself in his home and, after hours of negotiation, finally surrendered to police.

Officials with the Humane Rescue Alliance removed 31 dogs from his home.

Rattigan appeared in court for the first time on Thursday where a judge ordered him to be held without bond pending a preliminary hearing on Feb. 29.
