England, the Netherlands and Ecuador got their World Cup campaigns going with victories in their opening ties. The United States and Wales, meanwhile, battled to a draw.

USA 1 - 1 Wales

The United States and Wales shared the spoils in their Group B tie with Gareth Bale scoring a late penalty for the Welsh side after Tim Weah put the Americans in the lead.

Senegal 0 - 2 Netherlands

The Netherlands' late goals from Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen against Senegal ensured the Dutch side stayed as joint leaders of Group A.

England 6 - 2 Iran

Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka (twice), Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish found the back of the net to secure all three points for the Three Lions against a hapless Iran team that kept the margin decent with Mehdi Taremi's two goals in Group B.
