ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — A historic home built in 1873 was moved to a new location in Round Rock during the overnight hours Wednesday morning.

The City of Round Rock said the Palm House was “successfully” moved from Main Street to the Old Settlers Association ground — which is just northwest of the home’s original location.

The home was moved to downtown Round Rock in 1976. In December, the Historic Preservation Committee approved the home’s relocation, the City said.

Austin-based Heimsath Architects served as the lead architect for the two-room home’s move. The chimney of the home was disassembled and will be reassembled, the City said.

The City said the previous Palm House site on Main Street will become a walkway that connects Prete Plaza and the courtyard for the Round Rock Public Library, which is close to a new parking garage. This is part of a larger project to renovate the 44,000-square-foot Griffith Building.

The Griffith Building, which was the previous home of the library, will be the new home for the Round Rock Visitors Center, a two-story arts and culture gallery and the Round Rock Chamber, the City said.
