A fire early Monday morning (Nov. 27) caused significant damage to the North Captiva Island Club's former welcome center and restaurant building.

According to the Upper Captiva Fire & Rescue District Facebook page, "the UCFRD had a structure fire at the previous NCIC welcome center/restaurant. The fire was contained to initial building. There were no injuries."

The Island Club at North Captiva posted this on its Facebook page:

"This building was not being used since after Hurricane Ian. Reservations has been temporarily located at our Orange building offices (top floor). The Boathouse Restaurant hasn’t been opened since Ian as well. This does not affect our everyday operations."

The post also indicated that the ferry used to bring visitors to the island will be docking back at the floating dock next to the Orange building where the Island Market is located until further notice. Please plan accordingly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
